Enterprise rent a car blaming me for damage

I've phoned my insurance company and they told me that they cannot deal with it as the contract with the car hired is between me and Enterprise.
Also I've rang my bank to ask if they could get the money back which I did not authorized, they said they'll investigate and it may take up to 14 days. I've also asked if they could block my debit card and they said its different with a car hire company and it would be pointless as Enterprise would still be able to deduct money of my account if they want to. Mercdriver is right.
As it is Sunday today there is nobody I could get hold of from Enterprise in regards to this matter.
Lessons learnt and I know now that I shoukd've taken pictures of the car before I drove off, I did however had a looked around the car when I picked it up and I was the one who pointed the 2nd damage to the staff and he marked it on the sheet.
Its just never ending for me recently, it all started when my car got hit while we were having a meal in Harvester restaurant. The old gentleman was very nice and looked for us inside the restaurant and told me he would like to pay for the damage instead of going through the insurance. So I agreed and I went to 5 garages asking for a quote on the damage but in the end the old gentleman went through the insurance as it was too expensive. After all those hassle the following day after getting a hired car found a scratch on it and now this scuffed on the bumper
Anyway many thanks to everyone for all the advice, I really do appreciate it0 -
You can do request the bank remove the pre authorisation from the card0

I presume you are going to have to declare it as an incident on your insurance renewal for the next 5 years as well now then. I think I would have kept them out of it for the sake of £700.0 -
I'm confused. They took £350 off when you showed them the scratch, then a further £350 when you returned the car?
I thought these excesses covered all damage on return?0 -

Thank you, I will do that and make a request tomorrowI'm confused. They took £350 off when you showed them the scratch, then a further £350 when you returned the car?

that's right £700 altogether. I haven't got a clue at all why I had to pay twice for the excess. I've only found out yesterday that I was charge another £350 upon checking my bank statement online. I will ring them tomorrow and find out why.0 -
I have now settled this issue, I have spoken to one of the manager from Enterprise today and told me that they've looked at the contract of the previous 3 people who hired the car before me and they've found no marks on the sheet for the 2nd damage in question. So I was told its inconclusive whether it was there before I had the car or a fresh one, as it says on my sheet that there is. I will now get a refund of £350 and will not get charge for the 2nd damage.
I would like to thank everyone for their time and advice that you have given me in regards to this issue. I really am very grateful. Thank you so much!0 -
you will still need to declare it to insurance company now you have told them, they will have recorded it im sure0

i bought hire car excess insurance for around about £40 per year. so works out well. there is a limit on the hire value of the car, which was £50k. So i would take that out every time.
Glad it worked out for the OP.0 -
Not much help, but this is why I ALWAYS take pictures of any hire care before I get into it and after I drop it back off. Pictures before and after cannot be argued with.
Also, why did you bother calling them and saying it was damaged before it was even time to return it. Sometimes it's easier to say nothing, if they mention it, deal with it at that time, but don't give them ammunition to use against you, because they will just blame you for other damage that you didn't even cause, such as what has happened here.0
