Neighbour's roof damaged by our builders

You need to tell the builder before you do this, and give them an opportunity to do it themselves. Do this in writing.

The relevant law is the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Now the builders have repaired the roof. They originally agreed to pay £50 towards the damaged piece of furniture but apparently now have got back to the neighbour saying they won't pay and he should use his home insurance. I still haven't made my final payment (of £6000). Should I hold £50 back and pay the neighbour or shall I leave them to sort it out between them?

I'd just hold back the £50. Ask the neighbour to sign a receipt and send a copy with your remittance.

It's just not worth the hassle over £50. As if someone would claim on home insurance for £50. The excess would be more.
