I had no other choice than to combine my Masters part time whilst working full time. It was extremely hard but I got through it. Good luck.
  • Thanks! I will come back and update this thread as things progress incase it helps anyone else out :)

I now just need to try save like mad as I've calculated if I can save about £3k in 9 months I won't need a job as I already have some savings and the area we'll be living in is very cheap compared to where I am now.

That's a bit different to what WibblyGirly is asking about though. It's pretty common for people doing a part time Masters to hold down a full time job (for many it's like you, there is no other choice), but a full time Masters can be so time consuming that it's very difficult to do any paid work, although as the replies in this thread show that does vary considerably depending on the demands of the course.
  • Yay WibblyGirly! You could always post your SOA on debt free wannabe board - I know it's saving rather than debt but it really helps to see where other people think you can cut back. Also if you need a job when you first start your course you could always get a temporary Christmas one next year for a few hours a week and offer to work the sales at the start of January as classes don't usually start back until mid Jan.

  • That's helpful to know Skint_chick about classes :) Yes I thought I could do that or find a job in a cafe/bar nearby and do a few evenings a week. I've already done a personal SOA and I know where I can cut back, no more take aways or random purchases of clothes and make-up! :rotfl:

Well done on the offer. Don't forget to apply to the Hardship Fund, or whatever it is called these days - sometimes student support fund - they will ask to see copies of 3 months bank statements, so you might want to have more than one bank account. It is discretionary, and payments do not have to be repaid, you can apply once per term. It made the whole world of difference to me when I did mine, and is generally underused.

Are you suggesting making a fraudulent claim? If not then the claim would need to show statements from all accounts.
  • Just thought I'd update the thread!

Been at my new uni since September. As predicted, my course is a lot of reading. Some stuff is familiar while other parts are brand new and quite difficult to get my head around!

I managed to save a decent amount of money over summer, not quite £3K but enough, so I currently don't work and to be honest, I'm not sure where I'd fit in a part time job. I do have my own Etsy business and fortunately that's been earning a decent bit of cash each month so I've been able to use that for treats or nights out :)
