Rent payment needed before wages!

Options
Hi,
I have never posted on here so I apologise if I am in the wrong area, but I need some advice. I have just moved into a new private rented house and my rent is due each month on the 22nd. However, my wages are not paid into my account until the 25th, at the earliest each month. Unfortunately my landlord is very strict about the rent date and will not let me change it. What can I do to try and bridge the gap between the 2 dates? I have looked into extending my overdraft on my current account but the interest charges are crazy! Does anybody have any suggestions of a good system where I can pretty much borrow my rental amount each month and then pay it back a few days later??
Thanks :D

  • Can't you just save it from the previous month? transfer it in to a separate account if need be so you don't spend it.
  • That would be straight forward if I hadn't just moved to London and my rent was much higher than my previous salary would cater for, if you see what I mean?
Basically I need to wait the 3 days to have the money each month, it would not be possible to save this month's money for the rent on the 22nd.
Your idea was my first thought though.

    Thanks for your quick response.
  • Spend less or earn more.

    But surely you knew that...

Any savings stashed away? Borrow it from friends family?

Presumably your new salary is now much higher to accomodate the new higher rent, so you should be able to pay it back after a few months at most?

An overdraft sounds like your best bet, but maybe aim to save a bit each month, so that after say 6 months you have caught up.

Other than the first couple of months, it shouldn't matter what day of the month the rent is due as it still comes out of the same fixed wage.

As far the here and now, can you beg or borrow the first month's rent? By month 2 you should be able to gather enough of your wages to cover it.

  • Hi,

you only need the money for first months rent, then 3 days later you will be paid, so you then have the money for the next month.

The way you're talking is to borrow the money for this month, pay it back, then borrow again for next month, ad infinitum.

Borrow from parents or a mate, and spread the payments over a few months, until you're on your feet.

Are you hoping to stay beyond the period of your current tenancy? If so, do as advised above. If not, just pay 3 days late every month, you might well get an S21 at the end but if you're leaving anyway it doesn't really matter (although you also won't get a good reference).
