    Might be overkill for this job but best solution I found for stripped chipboard is insert nuts.

    Sorted out the door hinges on some wardrobe that had been dismantled and moved one too often.

    Unless it has a cut-out at either end or the holes are symmetrical.

    The putting in of a rawl plug (or part of) or a matchstick or other piece of dowel would be the easiest to do and would lessen the chance of hitting any pipes or wiring that could be below the board.
