Barclays contents insurance

I have a Barclays current account and earlier today I had to phone them for something, while I was on the line they asked if I would like a home insurance quote and as my contents insurance is due for renewal in a couple of months I agreed.
They put me through to the insurance section and before they gave me the quote the advisor had to read a LONG legal script. About halfway through I heard him mention that by getting a quote I agreed that they could examine any bank accounts I had with barclays when ever they wanted (or words to that effect) So at the end of the script I asked him if he could explain why barclays insurance would need to examine my barclays accounts. He got a bit flustered and said it would be to see if I had any direct debits going out of them to other insurance co's. I asked why they would need to know that and as it is I don't anyway. He couldn't give me an answer so I decided not to go ahead with the quote (which he wasn't best please about lol)
Does anyone know why Barclays insurance would want to see my accounts with them, it just seems a bit intrusive. After all if I had a bank account elsewhere, but were using barclays for insurance they wouldn't be able to see my account.
