can a sat nav show walking speed

I have been told by my doctor to get more exercise and walk more so I have started walking.

I thought I would use my sat nav, a Binatone X350, to see how far and how fast I was walking.

However the speed indicator on my sat nav never shows more than 0mph while walking, it works OK in my car, and the map is not all that defined especially when approaching a roundabout and road junction.

Though it does tell me when I get home.

Are sat navs not precise enough to show walking speed or is it just my Binatone X350?
over 73 but not over the hill.

I've no idea about sat navs in general, but the HERE WeGo app installed on my mobile phone seems to do a reasonable job of showing my walking speed. No idea about its accuracy, though.

Maybe there's a setting to change from car to walking.

Runkeeper is another free app you can install on your phone - I find that works very well.
  • Loads of apps for smartphones. Strava, Mapmywalk, Endomondo are just a couple off the top of my head.

Much more convenient than taking your satnav out and will keep a record of all your distances and speeds over time for comparison.

    I don't have a smart phone, I have a sat nav.

Google Fit is pretty good at measuring walking distance, and Google Maps has a My Timeline option that is generally reasonably accurate.

Edit, sorry didn't refresh so didn't see your reply saying you don't have a smartphone. Get a smartphone maybe? ;)

You will find the information you require in the manual (p33).

Can't you just work out distance divided by time?

If you are able to do this, don't do what I did when I purchased my first satnav.
I bought it whilst in San Francisco and due to not needing a car while I was in the city, I stuck to walking and cycling and wishing to use the satnav for directions, I set it to pedestrian mode.

After a week there, I picked up a rental car to drive north to Yosemite.
I thought that the satnav was faulty as it was giving all sorts of weird directions and indications, taking me down backroads instead of the interstate.
It took me a while to realise that it was still in walking/cycling and was only allowing my car on roads suitable for these methods.

Earlier this year (using a satnav I've had for over 10 years ) I wondered why it was coming up with a time of 6 hours for a journey that I knew should only take about 3. Turns out I'd forgotten that a few weeks befoe I'd set it to avoid motorways so it was finding a back roads route.
