No switch Sainsburys Bank

I opened a new Halifax bank account this morning with a view to switch my Sainsburys account and pick up the £100 Halifax switching offer. After the Halifax account was opened I then got to the switching menu. I then get an error when I enter the account details of my Sainsburys account. Had to ring Halifax customer support - am told that Sainsburys arent part of the switching brotherhood so I cant get my £100. Should Sainsburys not be obliged to be in the switching service. Most other banks including Tesco's are

Most are but it is not compulsory.

Although, I don't even see a current account on their web site.

I think you believe any account can be switched, it can't only currant accounts from banks/building society's that have signed up, I am not aware that sainsburys has ever operated a current account.

Are you confusing a savings type account?

yes - my Sainsburys account is a saver - as you suggest that may be the answer

And they aren't part of the switching scheme as they don't provide current accounts.

They no longer even open any new accounts with an ATM card.
