Is it safe to do on line banking on a iPad while staying in a hotel? My oh says could be dodgy but I can't see why. Does anyone do this and can advise please.

The risk here is a potential "man-in-the-middle attack".

However, I don't know how likely it is that someone in your vicinity would be intercepting your traffic, but it's certainly a possibility.

Personally, I would never use public wifi to do internet banking or anything that involves entering personal/valuable data (login details, credit card numbers, etc).

Nope. Always use a VPN regardless of the device.

Thanks very much to you both for replying to me. I think its a no go then as its not just my banking details but those of members of my family so I won't take the risk. Thanks again.

If the device has mobile access i.e. 3/4g there should be no problem, just wifi then as above.
