                    Hi,
Need some help understanding Child Maintenance. I've been paying the ex wife since i left her 10 years ago the correct amount worked out on the online calculator. but I have now just split up with my GF who we have x2 children with.
From what i read on the website for the new CSA it says it is capped at 19% for all 5 children (but also for x3) is that right?? It also confuses me saying 16% but I'm guessing thats if i'm living with my GF still... ???
does anyone know what each ex wife/GF should get?
I'm on the Basic rate...
Thanks

It's capped at 19%, and in fact reduced for children in your household ( u paid ex wife too much )
It would be reasonable now to pay
 19/5 *x
3.8% per child ( or more if you can afford it )0

Why does he need the snip? He's paying for the children he's made. Maybe the mothers need to be steralised, I bet their not paying for their kids, I bet their money comes from CM and tax credits!Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0

It is capped at 19% for 3 or more children. Your ex-wife should remove 3/5ths of 19% and your ex-GF 2/5ths of 19%.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

If I understand it correctly from what I've just read.
if you earned £500 a week. Then you'd pay 19% to your first partner (reduced if you look after them on any nights) - £95
Then because you're already paying support for three other children your income would be reduced to reflect this by 16% before calculating the amount for the other children.
 £500 reduced by 16% = £420
You'd then pay 16% of this figure for your two other children = £67.20 (again reduced if they stay any nights with you)
So you'd be paying 32.44% of your income in total - 19% to ex wife and 13.44% to ex gf
At least that's what the CSA website suggestsHow the number of children affects how much you pay
If you’re paying child maintenance and you’re on the basic or basic plus rate, the amount you pay will depend on the number of children you’re being asked to pay for. The figures below assume that your children stay with the parent who receives child maintenance all the time.
On the basic rate, if you’re paying for:- one child, you’ll pay 12% of your gross weekly income
- two children, you’ll pay 16% of your gross weekly income
- three or more children, you’ll pay 19% of your gross weekly income
Paying for children from another relationship
If the paying parent’s gross weekly income is between £200 and £3,000 and they pay child maintenance for other children, this is taken into account when working out how much they should pay.
The Child Maintenance Service simply reduces the amount of weekly income that it takes into account. For example, if the paying parent is paying for:- one other child, their weekly income will be reduced by 11%
- two other children, their weekly income will be reduced by 14%
- three or more other children, their weekly income will be reduced by 16%

That doesn't suggest that it's 19% divided by 5. It would be unfair as both sets of children would be receiving far less than if the other children weren't in the equations.
It's more expensive overall to keep two sets of children in two households then it is to keep them all in one. Think about all the costs associated with housing children that are fixed - and not paid per child.
 It's only capped at 19% per partner/household - not per total children.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

I think that's the reduction of the OP has children in his household.0

Best to contact them to check - and I'm sure you weren't planning to, but maybe don't have any more children!Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

What's that got to do with supporting your children?
Whether she's single or dating 5 guys, they're your kids0

If you go on to the CMS site there is a calculator in which you can submit all your details confidentially. This will then give you an amount overall, it then gets split between the 5 children. So ex 1 would get more than ex 2, but the same per child if that makes sense?!.0
