Electronic signature for contract?

Does anyone have experience or know if it is possible to sign a contract for exchange using an electronic signature and email it back to the solicitor?

I know they are increasingly accepted for various documents but not sure whether house buying is 'up to date' with that!

Thanks

My solicitors have always insisted on original signatures (obviously including the witnesses).

But some are happy to email documents to me for me to print out, sign and return by post/courier. So it only adds one day to the process. Others prefer to post a paper copy of the contract to me, adding two days to the process.

    Edit to add:

... but you normally sign the contract in advance of exchange anyway. So it doesn't really cause any delay at all.
