It is done by dbs and they have a 5 year requirement .
I guess that should not be too hard to get?

I am risking turning another offer down for this job not knowing if I will meet sc clearence

It is IT jobs working with goverment agencies

In this case DBS is not the Disclosure and Barring service but Defence Business Services.

Full title being DBS NSV - Defence Business Services National Security Vetting.

Clearance is given for 5 years for contractors and 10 years for permanent staff. However if you are not in a role requiring SC clearance for more than 6 months then your clearance expires and will need to be renewed again if you want to do another SC cleared role.

It can take a few months to get your clearance. It took me 3 months to get mine back after having clearance for 40 years and then a 9 month gap when it expired
  • Many thanks

What will you do while waiting for the clearence ? I am due to start soon and I am not British

The company will either allow you to start working for them if you can do your job sufficiently without having access to the information (in my case I could not access the network with MoD information) or they will require you to have SC before starting.

The organisation should be able to let you know?
  • Well I told them I am on visa and they were fine with it

Now just few days before starting asking for SC clearence and said I have 60 days to compele

    Have to try my luck

It's not "hard" to get - it just takes time... Mine was quite quick (8 weeks I think) while some took several months. And they were British. If they want to dig deeper it might require an interview - again, this also happened to Brits, some of whom had been travelling, for others without an apparent reason (all for SC level). It's really hard to predict how long exactly it will take and how straightforward it will be (this also depends on your home country).

Have they already provided you with portal a access to start the application? Something to be aware of us that the portal changes and there'll be a week at the end of September where you can't apply.

60 days can be enough but it's tight and there is a risk it'll take longer. They should know this though!

So is it the case or not that the interview takes place for some SC level applicants at their discretion but always takes place for DV level? Or does it not work like that?

When I underwent the first part of DV the interview was an integral part of the procedure for everybody.
  • There is a question on the sc form asking how many times have you applied for credit/loan and rejected

How is one meant to remember this?

Yes, at DV level, there will always be an interview - at SC level only if they deem it necessary.
