Security clearence

Hi all,

Would security clearence fail you based on your nationality for instance?

Or is it based on individual records regardless of nationality?

Thanks

For non UK citizens the employer will need to talk to the UK NSA. They can not use the normal route. There are possibly some nationalities that can't get clearance but only they will know that
  • What if you have been here 9 years or so

Are you a dual national or or a foreign worker?

"Do I need to be a British citizen or have lived in the UK to be vetted?
Some especially sensitive posts are reserved for UK nationals; and certain categories of information may be restricted to UK nationals too. But generally, nationality is not a bar to security clearance though to be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken."

Nobody here will know, you have to proceed with the application and see if you're successful. There are different clearance levels for different roles.

I'm not British but held security clearance (SC level). I definitely could have got DV as well - not a problem if you have lived in the UK for long enough. Think it's five years.

However, you'll most likely have a caveat to say that you can't see data for UK eyes only - could be a problem depending on the role.

It is exactly the same route by the way - certainly for MoD security clearance.

Though, yes, it will also depend on your nationality how straightforward it's going to be. My SC came through quicker than most of my (British) colleagues whereas you may have more problems if you are from certain countries.

We specify ten years residency. Nine should be OK. As said before there may be restrictions, but Sc should be OK.
  • It is done by dbs and they have a 5 year requirement .
I guess that should not be too hard to get?

I am risking turning another offer down for this job not knowing if I will meet sc clearence

It is IT jobs working with goverment agencies
