Equitalk not collecting DD from Santander

Hi
I seem to be having the Vodafone problem with Equitalk. They are unable to collect from a DD from a Santander 123 account.
All details seem correct and listed with Santander so can't see what is going wrong.
Therefore, can anyone advise how to leave a service like this without loss of telephone service and also what other companies give cheap calls via a BT line rental please? (This is for my elderly mother who has benefited from cheap calls for years.)
