Since whatever you do will only appeal to half the potential market, I'd save the money and keep the carpet, bottle green or not.

If you decide on carpet, why not get a shampooer? Well worth it.

Surprised you couldn't remove the stain your mother left.., most things can be removed.

To be fair, we haven't tried it on the rug yet. £30 ish from IKEA, and I think the rug doctor things are about £20 to hire, so we may just get a new one as it was a few years old anyway. Worth a thought though, thanks!

I can see why you'd say that, but it would totally ruin the overall spec of the finish if we left it. Plus, it's a 3-bed family home so we're trying to maximise the selling price by aiming it at young couples/families who won't want to have to do any work, and I think re-flooring all that space would be a no-no for them.

I'm with contrivant and have a massive cream rug on floorboards in the lounge. The old rug (same) is now under the dining table in the kitchen-diner (tiled all the floor in both sides of room).

Something very similar to this (if not the same) http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4596338.htm#pdpFullDesc
