HSBC back statements

Can anyone tell me how far back I can request bank statements for an ordinary HSBC bank account.
Asking on behalf of an elderly relative who has one of these accounts

you can request up to 6 years maybe more. Should cost no more than £10

If they have HSBC internet banking, they can see 6 years of statements online and download them in .pdf format if needed

Currently no online access setup but will be put in place soon.
Is six years the maximum statement information is held for by HSBC?
Missing statements are required for a period of at least 8 years, preferably 10.
Unfortunately my relatives memory loss, hidden for some years, means that there has been vulnerability for some time. Checking statements after power of attorney has been granted would be a good way to ensure that all is in order. Paying money for this is not an issue - at this stage just be useful to know if the records can be retrieved.

I'm not sure that would be the case if the something found was criminal. But it's probably moot anyway as it's very unlikely that the information will still be available that far back.

With HSBC online banking you can only go back as far as 6 years. After setting it up you can print out copies of any of the statements produced during that period.

However if your relative goes into one of the HSBC branches it is sometimes possible to get copy statements going back 7 years and more.
