re-hp ink

Options
Hi Guys, Just been messed about awful with online company for 4 weeks to get a 301 combo for my hp 3050a all in one printer, from "my-printer-ink", via ebay
.Lost in dispatch, twice supposedly.
Cr**
Awaiting refund.
I believe hp can be funny with compatables.
Question;;
when I buy new genuine 301 combo ordinary, it shows full on my printer.
I've always been told that XL hold more, but the cartridge is the same.
How is it showing full, if xl, has more ink in same size cartridge.
I've always been advised not to buy xl, rip off?
any opinions please.

FWIW ... I've recently tried Jarbo compatibles in my HP printer (which takes HP 364 inks) ... so far, so good.

    jarbo?
It seems most ink companies are channel isles, my last one was, and had trouble with them, but came eventually.
    are they?
do you use xl or ordinary?
I don't print much now, bloody kids use it, leaving me to replace it.
sure supply only do xl, and costly, and singles

You should buy refillables - not compatibles. The reason being the former can be filled from even your local corner shop if it has the machine. Else you can buy the syringes in supermarkets.

Compats can be hit or miss and there are lots of fakes. .

The XL cartridges are the same size externally, the standard capacity cartridges are restricted internally so they hold less ink and cannot, without removing the internal, moulded in restricting walls and fitting the appropriate size sponges, be refilled to XL, and standard 301 black holds 6ml of ink, the XL holds 17ml. The electronics on the cartridge do not measure the ink levels, they count usage based on what you are printing so the levels will go down at a rate the printer thinks it's using the ink, the electronics in the cartridge are programmed to be either standard or XL.

But it isn't free, you pay for it, hp are doing it for profit so I'll bet it works out a lot more expensive than buying refills or refilling yourself and even a more expensive than actually buying the new cartridges, maybe it's fine for very infrequent use.

    thanks I, very useful info.
xl is nearly 3x as much as standard, hence extra cost.
didn't think there was that much difference.
as I don't print much, don't want it drying up, so always stuck to standard.
    dearer than champagne, per ml.:rotfl:

The ink won't dry up, they print heads can clog if you don't use the machine for a while. HP Instant Ink, you sign a contract with HP for a monthly direct debit giving you a page limit a month, they send you replacement cartridges when you need them.
