Alloy Wheel Repair.

I've just bought a nice second hand car that has a little bubbling on the alloy wheels. The car is 7 years old so it's fair enough, but I'd like to look into getting them repaired at some point. I've been told they need to be shot blasted as opposed to the standard method of alloy wheel kerbing or scuff repair.

Does anyone have any experience of a good firm, ideally a mobile 1 which will visit your home?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Megan

    Hi Megan,
If they need shot blasting, then I am afraid they will not be able to be done at your home, as the vans do not carry the equipment. Check yellow pages for firms in your area, and get a couple of quotes.

There are mobile companies such as Wicked Wheels http://www.wickedwheels.co.uk/ who carry out mobile repair.

I'm not 100% convinced that they do as good a job as the proper wheel refurb companies who completely strip, acid bath and blast your wheels before painting and baking them. Of course if the bubbling is localised on only a few spots on the wheel then they may be OK.

  • Hi both,

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll take a look in Yellow Pages and also speak to Wicked Wheels.

    Thanks again

Erm....Wicked Wheels ARE a proper refurb company !!!! Most wheels don't need chemically stripping, and many paint finishes don't need baking !! That doesn't mean that they are not a reputable wheel refurb company!! :rotfl:

I know that Wicked Wheels are a proper refurb company. But their work is often only on the cosmetic face of the wheel and where the tyre is taken back. My point was that sometimes you need a wheel to be fully chemically stripped and blasted. I did mention in my reply that if the damage was localised cosmetic damage then WW would be OK. The price WW charge per wheel is as much as a proper refurb. You pay for the convenience of them visiting you and not losing the car for a few days.

  • i agree with vikingaero - for wheels that just need a touch up repair the mobile wheel repair services are fine, but if you want a "proper" job get your wheels to a local company there are others that just require you to send them your wheels via courier and you get them back in a week or so looking new. The cost is pretty much the same as vikingaero says.
