Hi,
Got a large front room window measuring 292cm wide and its impossible to get off the shelf venetians for this size, made to measure ones cost a fortune.

My window is flat however has 3 separate panes of glass.

I was thinking I could buy 3 off the shelf venetians which would save me loads. So I could buy 60cm+180cm +60cm and trim the width to fit.

Im not sure if this will look ok though on this type of window.

Opinions please.

  • I have 3 blinds on one window. Mine is made up of 3 equally sized panels, and the ends of the blinds align with the frames. I think it looks fine from the inside, and from the outside it pretty much looks like one blind.

Would the ends of your blinds align with the frames? If not then be aware you will have a small gap between them so total privacy would not be guaranteed!

Trimming the width neatly can't be that easy. Are you sure made to measure are too expensive? I didn't think they were too bad but it's been a long while since I've bought any.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I think it will look fine as long as the blinds align with the frames and far more versatile than one big blind.

You can buy a handy little clipper that you adjust to take the same amount off of each slat that gives a nice rounded end.

  • My living room bay window has 2 blinds that cover the biggest window. I think it looks awful and can only imagine yours would look worse with three blinds. Sometimes it's worth paying more.

Thanks for the replies. I was going to make sure the 3 blinds only cover each frame separately, like this (each blind would be one of the red boxes:

I did look into getting made to measure but they were quoting around £145 which I though was a bit much considering I would buy all 3 off ebay/amazon for around £50 and cut them down using a handsaw for the header rail and scissors for the slats.

    Still undecided.
  • That is what mine are like. It is definitely more flexible than one big blind! I wouldn't use scissors to trim though, I don't know you would a great finish. The type of trimmer that peachyprice suggested would probably be best.

Our neighbours all have these and they are fitting inside each frame as your picture shows. You can't tell from outside, and even inside it looks absolutely fine.
I will be doing the same.

Thankyou everyone, going to get 3. Found the ones I want (white aluminium) cheapest and with best reviews on wilko, really great prices.

It will look just fine if you do a neat job and line the joins up with the frames as you have planned. The image linked in post 2 looks as attractive as if it were one blind.

When we bought our house some years ago our first floor main bedroom had two blinds on a large window. The double blinds looked fine even though the join was not lined up with the frames. That would have required three blinds as the window had one large central pane and two smaller side panes.

We have now replaced the blinds with curtains but that was not because the blinds looked odd.
