Don't assume anything when buying from AO, e.g. that the light in the microwave does anything.
Purchased a Sharp Microwave R664WM_WH for £79. Not cheap, but seemed good value at the time.
Unpacked it, switched it on, then realised that although there is a light inside it, you cannot actually see inside while you are cooking. This is obviously useful so that you can check while cooking that milk isn't boiling over, etc., which is while all microwaves have a light and a door you can see through.
Not worried at this stage, contacted AO who stated that as we had used it we could not return it! I explained that I couldn't have known about the problem without switching it on, this I was told is irrelevant, but they would ring Sharp to check. AO then rang back to inform me that Sharp had confirmed that the inability to see the food cooking was normal for this model so I could not return it. I asked why the microwave had a mesh door and a light inside it but AO could not answer. I hadn't realised, but under AO's terms and condition if you return it as used, (even if you only turned it on), AO can deduct up to 50% of the cost and you have to pay the cost of carriage, making it pointless to return it. I am now stuck with a sub-standard product. I hope this may help someone else avoid my situation and AO, as I will in future.

Annoying but not exactly "sub standard". Though it doesn't say it has a light, I can see how you were misled. Pictures on these two websites certainly make it look like it has an interior light. Can't look at AO, it's unavailable, either sold out or withdrawn following complaints about lack of interior light.
Even bigger shame is that it's £10 less in Tesco! Their description states it "has an internal light".

The OP has already mentioned it.under AO's terms and condition if you return it as used, (even if you only turned it on), AO can deduct up to 50% of the cost and you have to pay the cost of carriage, making it pointless to return it.
As a sidenote OP, that's not just AOs terms, its part of the CRA. If you've only just turned it on, and not actually 'used' it, then they won't deduct 50%. They can make a deduction based on the reduction in value, but they would be hard pressed to do that if you've only just turned it on. In fact, as that's all you've done why don't you pack it back up and return it, not telling them you've turned it on?0 -
why don't you pack it back up and return it, not telling them you've turned it on?
I've done that several times. I always unpack products carefully & keep every single bit of packaging. Have tried out numerous irons (how else will you know if you like the weight & how well they iron) & even 2 vacuum cleaners. Didn't just open them up to see, I actually tried the products out.
Only concerned about 1 of the irons as I'd filled the steamer, it took a few days to get it dry enough to return!

Just turning in on is a lot different from actually using it, which is what you say you do though.
'how else will you know if you like the weight', well I usually pick up the item to test the weight rather than vacuum my house with it, but I guess I'm strange like that. :rotfl:0 -

Your post says you used the vacuum cleaners. If you only meant the irons (and it wasn't clear as I'm sure you agree), why did you need to use the vacuums?SevenOfNine wrote: »2 vacuum cleaners. Didn't just open them up to see, I actually tried the products out.
However, the same applies to the irons. I tell the weight by picking it up rather than ironing my clothes.0 -

If you've "picked up an iron to check it's weight & how well it irons", how do you vacuum your house with it?
Goodness, has someone invented a multi purpose tool that irons AND vacuums, thats amazing! What is it called, vaciron, ironvac? Do tell so I can get one to try. :TSeen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
