At one point in my life, I paid a good bit of money (that was difficult to afford) to get exactly the will I wanted.
Happily, I was still alive when the situation (dependent children) went by and I was able to DiY again. But I didn't resent a penny of sorting out what I wanted at a point that suited me.

As for sorting out the sort of melded estate you describe - so much depends on age / life expectation, situation that children / grandchildren are in etc. Well done for talking about it and getting it sorted properly

Thanks. We've been talking about doing it for a while but kept putting it off as seemed too complicated to even discuss really. We are late 40s with children early 20s/late teens.

Would the situation need to be revisited if we moved house or could we just move the tenants in common unequal proportions to any new property we buy?

A professionally drawn up will should take account of that if the solicitor has the information. Remember that making a will is not just a one off task unless you are close to death so at the very least it needs reviewing every few years
