    Thanks to everyone for your comments. Looks like I will just have to suck it up if they refuse a refund...

    Daytona0- just to clarify that I have never defaulted and apart from a credit card, I fortunately have no debt. I have just always been in arrears to the factor simply because at first I didn't have enough money to pay the full balance. I always pay towards the balance every month (the bill quarterly). The arrears aren't huge either.

    No, it's an entirely more serious state of debt.
