Update today . Come home to yet another letter from direct line . Its like one a day here atm .

Anyway this is dated the 31st and is the documents I requested on the 30th . What I actually requested was confirmation that this was a mistake on their behalf . What they have send me is
A copy of my insurance certificate Showing date of commencement at the 6th July 2015 which as far as I am concerned is not worth the paper it is printed on

A motor insurance schedule . Issued 31/08/16 - This suggests that the policy number it mentions should now be a valid insurance policy from that date

Motor Proposal Confirmation Issued 31/08/16 - Again this points to the policy number mentioned within being a current and valid policy .

Sorry Can I just clear up my issue with incurring interest on the credit card is as follows

I paid my insurance premium on my barclaycard and then transferred it to a
credit card I hold with my bank . I subsequently paid the balance transfer off on my bank card but then booked a holiday on my bank credit card and transfered it to the credit card that direct line have just refunded (again cheaper to BT and pay over 12 months vs what holiday companies want to spread the cost and the barclaycard had a decent BT offer on at the time )

So my issue is this .

Before the 24th the balance of the Barclaycard was £380
Now that Direct line have refunded me a large chunk of my insurance premium the card is about £140 in credit
Once they retake the money off the Barclaycard the balance will once again be £380 but this will be new spending so subject to interest after a month .
Or am I missing something .

    Two updates on this .

    1) I have now heard back from Direct line in relation to my complaint letter . Someone rang me this evening . I actually thought it was to get the money back off me . They basically took the breif details from the complaint from me again . They then offered me £30 compensation . I refused this and said I would be considering £100 as the least I would accept as a reasonable gesture of goodwill for the distress and time and effort I have expended resolving this . The gentleman I spoke with then had to "consult a colleague" Came back and offered £50 I once again refused this . Apparently someone is going to ring me back in the next 2 days to discuss it further .

Whilst on the phone I also discussed the issue of me now incurring interest on the balance of this payment as it is a new transaction on my card . He went on to state that this is not something that they would be concerned with as third party financial relationships like that are upto me . As I suspected their position would be .

I also mentioned the issue of impending summons from the police and asked who I should contact at Direct Line in that event . To which the man said oh of course we would indemnify you . I nearly burst out laughing at this point . That's pretty obvious . What I wanted to know was if you had a special department that dealt with !!!! ups of that kind .

    2) Ive now received a letter from them confirming that they want their money back . It gives me the option of phoning them or sending a DD mandate to them for the money owed . Need to get this sorted tomorrow before I am in work before they re cancel my insurance for non payment .

Anyway what are peoples views . Am I being unreasonable expecting £100. I dont think I am , but the gent on the phone certainly seemed to think so although he did not say as much but then he sounded as if I should merely be grateful that they have reinstated my policy . The way I see it is the shock I got and the time that I have so far spent chasing this matter up is worth £100 at the least . Is it one of those situations where someone will keep ringing me back "within the next two days" until I have to ask them for a letter stating their final offer so I can take it to the FOS if necessary ?

I would take the £50 and get on with my life personally.

No point in worrying about what may have happened.
  • Someone else rang back this morning from direct line . Offered £100 compensation no arguments . Getting a cheque in 7-10 days . Just goes to show sometimes it pays to stick to your guns .

This more than covers what it is going to cost me in interest and the hassle of going through this .

Have you tried ringing your card company and explaining the situation to see if they will reinstate the 0% deal?
