Look a random spot on the M25 with vast agricultural areas INSIDE:

How many more you want?
Yes that's the area that is most underdeveloped but not all of that green space is agricultural land and some that is is not suitable for building on to steep for instance also there are not very good transport links in that area and that would need to be improved.0 -

Well yes. But if you move jobs and people to somewhere else, you need to build the houses and transport links over there too.
Ok, then totally different areas:

Making it possible to build on agricultural areas is very easy, you can do it overnight, but how exactly do you "move the jobs"?
Very timely ... today in The Register
Marks & Spencer is to ship 400 IT and logistics roles out of London, part of a structural shake-up which will also see the retailer axe 525 roles.0 -
It is a very Victorian view of the world to imagine that you can simply move jobs out of somewhere to somewhere by an act of will.
That might work with low value jobs like weaving, accountancy or metal bashing. The jobs in London are often highly complex and so are the firms. You could not, for example, set up an oil company in Manchester just because you want to. You would find yourself unable to hire the shipping, refining, operational and trading professionals. They don't exist in Manchester. They're all in London. Likewise, you would struggle to set up an architectural practice in Sheffield or an art gallery in Birmingham.
One thing I have noticed about p1212's posts, and about many crashtrolls, is how deeply mired they all are in the past. They think the price of a house should be 3x their salary, they think that jobs are all so bog-standard simple they can be picked up and moved to the middle of nowhere, and they think all of this is something the state should somehow arrange. Like Baldrick and the Renaissance, It's as though everything since the Thatcher revolution only happened to other people.0 -

I never said prices should be 3x wage. When I was asked I said 6x price/wage ration seems to be sustainable in the current climate.
Also it was one of your boomer mates suggesting moving jobs as a solution, I am against this, just read back.
That's why it is totally useless talking to you, you are not able to comprehend anything, you are just yelling "bricks n mortar, bricks n mortar" that's all you know...0 -
Yes there are small amounts there, perhaps your definition of vast is not the same as mine. Yes there are areas inside the M25 that could be built on with the necessary improvement in transport links and infrastructure but not vast amounts and I don't think there is an appetite in any age group
to build on every bit of green land inside the M25.
What small amounts, just check the areas I've linked in.
If you move jobs and people to somewhere else, you still need to build infrastructure and transport there.0 -
Yes there are some very large and beautiful parks within the M25, much loved by the locals. Pave them over?
Yes this is a solution and one that should be considered.
I lived very close to hackney marsh for over two decades (zone 2). It was hardly ever used it was not uncommon for me to go walking there for an hour or two and I would see not a single other person in the open space. Even when there were others I may have encountered a handful. By contrast Victoria park to the south always seems much more busy
If you took 20% of that space you could possibly build 14,000 flats there. Add a £300pa park fund to the leases and you get £4.2m pa which can be used to vastly improve the remaining 80% of the park and make it more pleasant and useable for all the residents.0 -

The only definition you seem to be using is that it must be bigger than anything they suggest as otherwise you'd have to admit your original assertion was wrong and we know that isn't going to happen.
You may be able to come up with other reasons why the land shouldn't be built on but it doesn't make your original false claim that it didn't exist seem an less ill-informed.
As to your point about transport... Are you serious? You think agricultural land should be ignored for potential housing use because for some reason it doesn't already have major transport links :rotfl:Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature.
