Barclaycard Platinum - Pre-qualified?

HelloHope someone might be able to help. I received a letter from Barclays yesterday advising that I had been "Pre-Qualified" for a Barclaycard Platinum with a BT rate of 0% until September 2008. I have received flyers before saying I had been pre-selected, is this the same thing as pre-qualified? I'm assuming it does not guarantee that I will be given a Platinum Card but merely that I meet the criteria to have one. If I did apply, does anyone have any experience of the sort of credit limits they give you? My annual salary is £22k but I currently have £19,500 of debt (which is reducing on a monthly basis) and will be cleared by the beginning of 2009. Any advice/experience much appreciated.Thanks.DF2008

As you've already said, "pre-qualified" doesn't guarantee you'll get the card.Dave. :wave:0

Barclays will pretty much lend to any one, no offence. I had a platinum card when i was a student with a part-time job. I had held a classic card for a couple of years before that when i worked full time and they had increased my limit to £3,500 at one point! When i asked for it to be decreased they spent ages trying to talk me out of it.Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

If you bank with Barclays they can make a risk assessment based on how you run your account. They will use your risk category to decide what offers to send you, it is quite feasible that they could offer guaranteed acceptance to low risk customers.
Lloyds TSB regularly offer me a personal loan with guaranteed acceptance up to a certain amount, providing my circumstances haven't changed since they sent the letter. I can apply for a larger amount but it's not guaranteed.
If they say you are "pre-qualified to apply" it's meaningless, anyone can apply but it doesn't guarantee acceptance.0
