the grants and loans are usually based on household income, so I assume yours is less than £30k. a grant is a grant, free money, enjoy it...0

I thought whatever grant you got was taken from the maintenance loan, ie you have a tuition of 2000, and total maintenance money of 3438, 2765 of which is a grant ie you don't have to pay it back!
But the word supplementary confuses me!0 -
You would have to apply for a supplementary grant. In Scotland it is things like child care, dependants' and lone parents' grants you can get. Although why the SLC is paying out grants is odd to me.
If you are confused phone up the SLC and ask for details on your loans and grants, they should be able to tell you why you are getting them. If a mistake has been made and they are paying you more than you should be getting you will more than likely have to pay it back.0 -
You get your grant on top of your loan.. they do reduce the loan a little bit if you're getting a grant but you do get bothStudent moneysaving club - member no. 6Uni Reading0

Tuition Loan of £2000 This is paid direct to the university - you have to eventually repay this
Maintenance Loan of £3438 This is a maintenence loan to help you live. Paid in three installments - you eventually have to repay this.
Supplementary Grant of £2765 This is a grant given to you, paid in three installments - this you do not have to pay back.
It looks like you have a shortfall of £1070 for your fees. Which you will have to pay yourself.
If you are entitled to a full supplementary grant you may be eligable for a university bursary, this is non repayable. Its certainly worth a look. The time to apply for a university bursary is on registration.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

cuzzy,
You need to give us more details of your personal situation before we can say if it is right or not?
Are you an independent student? If not, what is your parents income?
Do you have children? Are you disabled?
Are you living with your parents during uni? Are you at uni in London?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Mines even more confusing cos they haven't put the childcare through yet, but I have got lone parents thingy & I get:
Tuition fee loan - 3070
Standard loan - 3438 - ?? Last year I got 4300??
Standard Grant - 5497

Tuition fee loan - 3070 paid direct to University - loan repayable.
Standard loan - 3438 - ?? Last year I got 4300?? loan repayable. They take of so much off because you get the full standard grant, thats why it is less.
Standard Grant - 5497 For single childless students this is £2765 max. Could they have included your child care /lone parent part here?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

It must be the lone parent bit because they haven't given me the figures for childcare yet - I only just returned the form for the childcare I used last year.Noli nothis permittere te terere
