seems to be an app 'BBC weather' conflicting with some other app on the phone

I am puzzled about BBC Weather being a problem when it's been on my phone for so long.

Any idea how I can find out which other app it's 'clashing' with? Short of uninstalling everything, reinstalling BBC Weather and then reinstalling the other apps one by one?

Prior to re-installing BBC Weather I had only reinstalled Fitbit, Myfitnesspal and the ID mobile app, as far as I can recall. All of which had coexisted quite happily with BBC Weather previously.

It's not BBC Weather! I've done a factory reset several times and every time I install an app - any app - the ghost touch starts again.

I reset it yesterday and as soon as I installed Fitbit it started playing up again. I reset it again today and am going to wait and then install a different app to see what happens.

This doesn't just happen when it's charging, it happens randomly and I can't find any pattern to it.

If anyone can help I'd he most grateful.

    The saga continues.

The phone was sent for 'repair' in October but was no better. I asked for a replacement and they said they only offer a replacement after 2 failed repairs. The second repair failed and I've asked for a refund, which they've refused to give me.

As they were notified of the fault when I'd had the phone less than 6 months, I've pointed out that they are in breach of the Consumer Rights Act, 2015, by refusing me a refund.

In the absence of a meaningful reply from Motorola I have raised a Section 75 claim with Barclaycard.

I will never buy from them again. Their customer 'service' is appalling.

I would be interested to know if anyone else is having problems with 'ghost touch' on Motorola phones. It is a known fault but not one they're interested in addressing.

  • I started experiencing ghost touch on my G4 soon after purchasing it last June (directly from Motorola). At first it was only when it was being charged but then it started happening all the time, and by March this year it had got so bad it was unusable. I've followed the steps you followed, and my phone is now back from its first repair - and it started having problems again after 3 days.

Each time I've followed Motorola's advice I've had to wipe the phone and reinstall everything afterwards.

I've asked for a refund and they've said no, and also said they won't replace it. They want me to send it back again for another repair. I've owned it longer than 6 months so I have no alternative (as far as I can tell ) to do as they've asked me.

Motorola's customer service reps seem to be following a script and don't seem aware that this problem isn't fixable. It's appalling service and I won't be buying another product from Motorola.

If anyone has ever had a fix for this that works, please let me know.

Does the problem exist on the G4 Play also?

I've got a G4 Play and do not have the 'Ghost touch' problem, but I haven't updated it to the latest System update yet. Im wondering if the problem happens when it's updated.
  • As an update on my "ghost touch" problem, Motorola refused a replacement or refund in response to the Consumer Rights Act 2015 letter I sent them (using a Which? template).

Using the small claims court online service (£25 fee) was quick and easy, and resulted in a refund. It was still a struggle to get them to pay promptly, but I stuck to my guns and insisted they comply with the terms of the legal action and not to their own slow and laborious process.

My phone is totally unusable; I took video evidence of the ghost touch before raising the court claim and I have evidence of it making 11 calls in succession so quickly that the calls couldn't possibly have been made by a human. There's also more than enough evidence on online forums of this issue. If Motorola hadn't refunded the full cost of the phone plus my legal fee, I would have had no qualms about taking it to court if that had been necessary.
  • Hi, we have ghost touching on two Moto G4 that we bought from Tesco
(not only when charging) this is totally a known issue by Moto

How did you get your refund please?

    Thanks

They told you; they issued a LBA and then made a small claim. Motoral then paid up before it went to court.
  • I have also had this problem recurring - firstly just when I was charging it, now it happens randomly, which is not only very irritating but potentially very inconvenient as my husband is quite poorly and I really need the security of a reliable phone, in case of an emergency.
Tesco today refused to replace the phone in-store, saying as was more than 30 days (bought it in Jan on contract) they could only return it to the manufacturer for assessment. I then chatted with Customer Service via chatbox, who suggested I buy a cheap phone (£14.99 which they would credit me with) they would then return my G4 while still allowing me to use my sim-card. I suppose this is one answer, but I see that this problem still sometimes persists even after repair. I am not hopeful...

I have exactly the same 'ghost touch' problem with the Motorola G4 phone I am buying under contract from Tesco. The problem with the 'ghost touch' syndrome has caused my phone to send unsolicited emails and text messages (without my touching the phone), switching on the flashlight randomly, deleting messages whilst I am trying to write them etc etc. The phone also gets incredibly hot. It has also initiated a call to a friend on my contact list. When I reported the problem to Tesco, they refused to exchange the phone, insisting that I had to do a factory re-set. That's been done now but the phone is still acting as if it is possessed! Tesco now insist that I have to send it back to them but also say that it will be away for about 2 weeks. They have not offered me compensation for possibly buying a cheap phone in the interim.
It hardly seems fair that I will be left without the phone that I am actually paying for, for two weeks.
Reading the posts on here, it also seems that any attempt at repair is highly unlikely to be successful.
If the phone still doesn't work when it comes back, and Tesco still refuse to replace it or compensate me, do I consider a Small Claims case against Tesco or Motorola?
Thanks for any help with this!
