Neighbour double parking among other things
So I got home from work a few hours ago and parked outside my house. No other cars were parked there at this time. A couple hours later I get told that the neighbour who lives to the side of me has double parked his van directly across from my car. So cars are having to squeeze past my car almost hitting it. I don't know what his problem is but he seems to think he owns the road outside his house. He has a big drive and owns 5-6 cars. Right now for example, he has two of them on his drive, which he rarely drives, another one on the grass verge area, and two by the side of his house. He could have easily parked on his drive but chose to double park against mine, and this not a big road so cars were having to slow right down to squeeze past. A larger vehicle wouldn't be able to get past.
He often moves all his cars onto the road so no one else can park there and he owns long cars like a jaguar, so it takes up a lot of space. The moment I move my car to go to the supermarket or something, he will move one of his cars off his drive to take that space. Another time I parked my car there and he chose to park his van 1 inch away from my rear bumper even though there are no other cars parked on the road this time.
A few months back I parked on the road outside his house and the next day I come back to find my car has been badly keyed all over the side of the car. Not saying it was them, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
I've never had any problems with these people before and have live there all my life, never once spoken to them. Should I go over there now and rant at them for the double parking? Because that's just being an a-word, isn't it?

Try speaking to them first next time there is a problem. Most people are reasonable if you are and if they are not then it is time to worry about trying something else.0 -
From what you say do you mean they are parking on the other side of the road? Double parked I always thought meant parking directly alongside the correctly parked car.
If he is parking on the opposite side of the road are there any parking restrictions, if there aren't then he is perfectly entitled to park there.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Some people seem to get a kick from doing this. Our car is parked out on the road in a marked disabled bay; and vans/trucks for houses on the other side of the street just love to park directly opposite our car, creating a narrow bottle-neck. 10 yards further up, it wouldn't have the same effect. I'd love to know why, I suspect it's similar to the reasons why people park right next to your car in the supermarket when there are hundreds of empty spaces .... bloodymindedness
On the plus side, it slows traffic down along our road, which can only be a good thing given that it's a residential area.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I should have taken a picture, but there were cars coming and going due to it being rush hour. What I meant by double parking is, my car was parked on the left side of the road and he parked his on the right side, directly across from mine. You can't park like this on the road as it's too small and the neighbours normally park over the curb to avoid it. He caused the obstruction as any vehicle bigger than a car would not be able to get past. I know this because someone double parked before on the street and the dustbin men were banging on doors as they couldn't get past. If there was no obstruction, I would not have posted this thread and would be parking on the other side of the road all the time (as well as other neighbours).
There was even space infront of his car, so he could have parked there. So it was done on purpose. I have brushed off all the other childish things he has done when parking but this could have caused damage to my car.0 -

I don't know how you're going to resolve this but if he's doing this you're both causing an obstruction and therefore both liable to be prosecuted is the police were involved.0 -

Is there a reason why you didn't do this with your car? (other than it annoys wheelchair users and pram/buggy pushers who struggle to get past)

I got home early and there were no other cars along the entire road. So why would I park over the curb?0 -
So why would I park over the curb?
Well, because you know the road is too narrow for row cars to park in it if you don't. As has been stated previously the police won't care who was there first they will book all the cars that ar causing an obstruction of they are called to deal with it.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
I think you're confused. There's plenty of space to park normally as there's two lanes so cars can get past easily. If a car was to park on one side of the road then another car would have to park over the curb to allow cars to get past.0

We get the occasional ignorant to$$bag who does this on our narrow street - not much you can do but have a word really, or put up with it if you think it could escalate.
The world seems full of this type of idiot nowadays, or is it just me getting old & grumpy...0
