Reporting to CRA after default drops off

I had a default placed on my credit report on 4th February 2010 which has subsquently dropped off after 6 years. However, the same debt is now listed on my report as date satisfied 13/1/16 and marked as 'Debt Assigned - the account and liability has been transferred to another company'

I have no problem with accurate information being reported, but is this allowed? My understanding was whilst the debt can still be pursued after a default drops off, it cannot continue to be reported to the CRA. Is that incorrect?

    Hi MrGannet,

This is not correct. Once the default has come off the creditor cannot report anything else on that debt unless they obtain a CCJ. Had they done this in the correct time frame (i.e. in January 2016) then it would have been ok, but the default would still have come off in the February 2016 along with this data. They should not be adding this information now and making the debt 're-appear'.

Write to them and complain, request the information to be removed and if they refuse escalate the matter to the Information Commissioner. Good luck,

    Laura

One might expect the quality systems operated by the CRAs to pick up this sort of thing.

Oh, .... silly me. The CRAs don't apply QC or data validation.

It s there is no to enforce the regulation , and company's know this a problem like this could take a year or 2 to sort out, causing a lot of damage,
To the poster complain to who added it, go the ico as soon as you can they will sort it just do not expect it to be done overnight
