Leaky toilets

Both our loos at the moment after you flush them, the valve isn't closing off properly so a trickle of water continues to run into the pan. They have a float system rather than ball valve, for the life of me I cannot work out in my mind whether I need to raise or lower the float level in order to stop the leak.

Can somebody please advise? At the moment the only way to stop them is to give the cistern a slap!

TIA

You could strip it and clean it out, and it might be fine. I normally just replace the entry valves with something like this.

    Quick, and easy.

If the problem is caused by the cistern overfilling then wind the float down the stick a bit.

If it is not caused by the cistern overfilling then playing with the fill valve will have no effect on water trickling into the pan.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Down. That was the answer I was looking for, thanks very much. It's happened before and twiddling with the float sorted it fine, I just couldn't remember which way it needed to go.

Just to confirm, lowering the float stopped the leaks.
