Cancelling really old credit cards

Hi
I obtained a one off credit rating type report on my account to see if there was anything that needed attention and I noticed that there is a credit card on my record which I believed I had cancelled but according to the report it says it is active.
The details on the report give a name of a company that I do not recognise. I think it must be the underlying financial company for the card as opposed to the company branding on the actual card.
Anyway, how would I go about closing this credit card. A quick google search reveals the branded company no longer is around and the number on the credit card statements no longer work.
How can I delete the account?
TIA

If you give some (general) details like brand then someone should be able to point you in the right direction.
Doesn't the credit report list some details for the issuer?
It's usually at the end of report and may detail their data protection department.0 -
If you still have the credit card statements then you know who the issuer is/was.
The credit report should be showing contact details for this card issuer.0
