Hi all, As you may have seen on my other thread I'm about to receive a new(ish!) computer today. Would like to put this old PC as named above as a 2nd computer-either in living room or spare room. Searched all over the web & can't seem to find an answer....! I can't hard wire it in on lan/hdmi cable so has to be wireless. Tried using the 'wireless set up' in control panel but to no avail. Does anyone know if I buy a wireless USB dongle if this old XP machine would then be able to connect to wireless? Thanks in advance & sorry for being thick!!!!

Hi! Browntoa...did you have the same issue??? I.E web connected but no display of web page content & the wireless dongle sorted this for you??? Assume it's the wireless dongle such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-USB-150MBPS-WIFI-WIRELESS-ADAPTOR-802-11-B-G-N-LAN-NETWORK-DONGLE-ADAPTER-/400773817250?hash=item5d4ffb23a2:g:7OEAAOSwJQdW-ib6 that I need-not a 'bluetooth' wireless dongle such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Bluetooth-USB-V2-0-Wireless-Dongle-Adapter-For-PC-Laptop-WIN-7-8-VISTA-XP-/252251845231?hash=item3abb61b26f:g:j0QAAOSw5dNWmNgx
....or do they both do the same job?0 -
Get a discrete nano USB adaptor else buy a new internal wireless card. Are you looking to turn it into a media server?0

Hi-no...not at all. Just a 'spare' computer for G/F or guests to use. No gaming, etc...just e-mails & surfing. Is there any way I can tell if this old PC even has a wireless card? And soz to be thick but what is 'nano USB adaptor' ??? Is it the same as the 1st link I highlighted above?0

Intel Pentium 4 2.60GHz?? What are you thinking??
You can get a laptop with a Core2Duo that will actually run Windows 7 for £40.0 -
Nifty, this was an old work computer (did not buy it) as i used to work from home. Just bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331951465773?ul_noapp=trueto replace old XP system (£32 inc post-bargain!-Due today!) & will use the ancient XP as a spare room/2nd computer.
Out of interest-are you able to post/PM me a link to the £40 systems you mention???
Also....as per the header of the thread-should a wireless dongle work with the Fujitsu )can't hard wire on LAN unfortunately).
Thanks for the help!:beer:0 -
Example with Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.00GHz
Took a few seconds. Can probably find something better with a deeper search.0 -
Well...plugged in USB 2.0 802.IIN wireless adaptor in USB, recognised hardware, found sky signal but could not get it to connect. Tried the 'configuration utility' & the 'wireless wizard' on the PC but nothing. Is there anything glaringly obvious I'm not doing right? Not possible to hard wire it or use power plug thingys (& besides did not want to spend too much!) as not enough sockets. Would be a shame not to use it as I've tweaked it to run pretty damn well! Any brainwaves?0
