NPower stopped taking our money
Hello everyone
I am a newbie here and this is my first post, so bear with me!
When I moved in with my partner 18 months ago we went through our finances and tried to do what we could to save and consolidate any bills we had.
Now my partner, God love her, has never been very good managing her money and it seemed that, despite her not doing anything and the direct debit still being set up in her bank account, NPower hadn't taken 3 months worth of gas payments (we are on a pre paid electric meter).
After numerous calls over the last 18 months ensuring us that the next payment would be taken and the issue had been resolved, we now have an outstanding balance of over £800 with NPower.
We are now trying to save for a house of our own (we are renting at the moment) I have been sorting out our finances and I want to be rid of NPower for good. I was just wondering what case I have to get any of this debt reduced/written off as we have asked NPower on several occasions to resolve and they haven't.
£800 is a lot of money to us and we don't want to be with NPower any longer. However, I can't see them coming to any kind of arrangement with the payment if we want to leave.
I was wondering if anyone had any similar issues or advice?
Thanks

How did you manage to use £800 worth of gas in 3 months; we don't use £800 worth in a whole year (nor does any average user if they are on a sensible tariff)
If you are paying by monthly direct debit, the cost is usally split into 12 equal monthly payments anyway. So are you saying you pay over £250 per month just for gas?
Anyway, assuming the bill is correct, a supplier will normally allow you to pay off accrued arrears over the same period it was accrued, by varying the direct debits accordingly.
Follow the suppliers complaint procedure if necessary.
But if you knew the money was not being taken, then you should have put the money aside for when the supplier would eventually request payment.0 -
This has gone on for 18 months now. After 3 months the bill was small and we had agreed a pay plan after 6 and 12 months with them (NPower even agreed to wiping 10% of the debt off in goodwill as it was their error) but they continued to not take payment.0

If they haven't been taking the money then it should be sitting there in your bank account ready to pay the bill.
I cannot see what your problem is.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Hi Adam410
Thanks for your post. It sounds like there might have been an issue linking the Direct Debit up, which sometimes occurs if a payment plan has been cancelled previously (the bank recognises the reference number and knows the payment has been cancelled, therefore we're unable to set it back up again).
If you can send us an email using the details on our profile page, along with your account details, we'll see what we can do to help. If you've got any up to date meter readings, that will also be a great help.
Kind regards

Hey, Adam.
Why not post saying you can't find the nPowers email address in their profile page?0
