Looking for property in West Yorkshire

I am looking to buy a property in West Yorkshire, I have a budget of £80k
Travel to work is not a problem as I work from home, I would like to find a two bedroom property somewhere semi-rural but within 5 miles of good amenities like supermarkets etc. Can anyone suggest a good area?

Depends what you mean by semi rural! I live in Golcar, Huddersfield. Has loads of amenities but also green-ness too. Not sure what you would find for 80k. Other areas around here that may fit your brief - Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Mytholmroyd..0

West Yorkshire may be smaller than some of the other Ridings but it's still a huge area. Where do you live now? Aside from being within 5 miles from supermarkets (most places are) do you have any other criteria? Easy access to a train line or motorway network? In a large city such as Leeds, a large town or more rural all together?student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0

Sowerby Bridge is a nice area, I actually assumed that would be outside my price range, will have to have a look and see what is on the market.0 -

I actually live in Leeds now, but am renting. Just looking to buy something in the same region. I drive so Train access is not a problem, but I don't need local motorway access really.0 -
I guess it depends what you'd like. for 80k you're probably unlikely to get a house with parking and a garden so worth thinking about what are necessities, luxuries and what you would pass up on.0

Just a reminder, last winter's flooding caused standing water and flooding issues in a host of places in West Yorkshire that hadn't previously had issues and it's often the cheaper houses that are in the most vulnerable areas. Once you've got a few areas on your list to check out it's worth looking to see if they had problems (a quick search for 'PLACE December 2015 flood' or asking a local shop owner or two should do it) before you offer on anything and start spending money with solicitors or surveyers.0

Around Castleford you will have your choice of properties with 80K to spend.
You may even have some spare.
Shopping is good and cheap and the people are down to earth and honest.
Look on Zoopla, 2 bed houses start at 60K.
In most other areas of West Yorkshire, £80k buys a garage.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

If you want more rural, the area to the north and west of Bradford/a 5ish mile radius of Keighley includes a lot of smaller villages and lots of nice countryside. Keighley, Bingley, Shipley and the edge of Bradford provide shopping etc and the first of those three places are on the Airedale train line. Probably it is cheaper to be on the edge of one of those larger towns than in one of the actual villages, but still maybe counts as "semi rural". Not sure what £80k might buy you but you can do a draw-a-search on Rightmove and see. Further to the south there's the area around Halifax, even further south of that there are areas between Huddersfield and the north of the Peak District which are more rural.
We're actually in Leeds currently and trying to move to the Keighley/Bingley area (though a somewhat larger house than £80k will buy).student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
Under/over dwellings in Huddersfield are usually cheaper than regular houses - like this: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-58766333.html (same house: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-32371875.html)0

Ah very true, and I think that Sowerby Bridge was one of the places affected.
The area does have a lot of pretty steep hills though, so I suspect only properties at the bottom of the valley would be prone to flooding.0
