How do you dispose of your cooking oil when cooking?

Hi folks,

Usually when cooking I use crisp n dry and drain what little I use (say when frying onions) down the kitchen sink. Probably should drain it over a bin or some other thing, but been doing that for a while now, easiest to do when you are hungry. If using a lot I would put it in bin.

Anyway the downside is at waste pips outside kitchen in the U bend it totally clogged up a few days ago, had to get down and dirty to get it sorted.

Just wondering how others dispose of small amounts of cooking oil that may be in a frying pan?

Thanks

Wipe it with kitchen roll, kitchen roll in bin.

Larger amounts pour into any tin, bottle etc and throw away.

It ends up becoming a fatberg

Best to not pour it Down the drain

Always in the bin, once it has cooled. Cooking oil causes massive problems in the sewer system as well as in your local pipework.

Yes I would never dream of putting any kind of fat down the sink!! Hate to think a neighbour of mine might do so!!

I also mop everything up with kitchen roll, including wiping the roasting tin or casserole dishes out. It then goes in the food waste compost bin as it's all biodegradable

Keep a 2l empty bottle under the sink, pour it in there each time and once it's full cap it and stick it in the bin.

I've always wondered how folk deal with this also.

I don't fry much TBH, but it's the residue after roasting a joint or chicken etc. that's the problem here.

I never put it down the sink or anything, but always ponder what to do. I made fat balls for the birds one time with breadcrumbs and raisins. That didn't really work out too well. Too wet lol. So into the bin they went!

It is rare though that I would have a lot to dispose of, and I never know what to do with it! Mostly I just leave it in the fridge to solidify a bit and then into a bag and into the bin. Messy process!

What do you all put the oil residue in before placing in the bin? Thanks.

Ooops just checked my bin service (not in UK now) and oils are NOT allowed.

    yikes.

We decant the used oil back into its bottle and throw it in the bin.

Don't do what a Hungarian ex-workmate of mine did recently. He thought it a really good idea to tip the hot oil down the loo. Took 3 weeks for his face to heal.

Of course, being the wits we are, we came up with with some appropriate comments.

If it's a small amount of oil from shallow frying, I just let it cool a bit and tip it straight into the bin, on top of whatever rubbish was already in there.

It works fine, unless I discover there was hole at the bottom of the bin bag.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
