Well you were very lucky, the S75 protection does not cover people other that the card holder and immediate family. Buying for some one else has never been covered.
    (emphasis added)

Do you have an authority for this? As far as I know it has always been covered. Certainly I'm not aware of any distinction between immediate family and others and the Act has no such limitation.

The issue is who is the contracting party. So if you buy something for someone else, you're covered. If somebody else buys something but you pay on your card, then you're not covered ("broken chain"). It might be that in some cases when you book for several people there are several contracts and you are acting as agent for your companions. It really does come down to the T+Cs (bearing in mind that not all T+Cs are binding) at the point of booking.

So if I bought a present for somebody on my cc say a holiday and the firm went into administration your saying I wouldn't get my money back. The transaction is done on my card with my name on it so surely I am covered by section 75. As stated earlier I got a full refund

23hrs 12 of which was spent sitting in the airport at no point were we given vouchers for food refreshments etc
as an aside, have you looked at flight delay compensation under EU261. Assuming the delay was not related to ATC, weather, strikes etc there could be compensation due here
Also for the 12 hours you were not provided with vouchers, if you send in the receipts to the airline for the refreshments you paid for and request reimbursement under EU261 Duty of Care, you should be reimbursed irrespective of the reason for delay

That's what travel insurance is meant to be for! S75 is backup

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
