How long for money to return to account

Hi all,
Hope this is the right place to post,
Anyhow on Tuesday 23rd August, I made a payment for £751.89 however during the online process my card was declined. However the money was still reserved from my account, meaning the available balance is £751 lower the the balance. Been on the phone to the company in question and they have informed me that as they didn't authorise the payment on their end the money should bounce back to my account, however it's been a week and it's not been taken still as the balance hasn't changed which is good but it hasn't return my available balance to the full amount of my balance,
So my question is how long does it take for a failed authorisation to bounce back to my debit account?

Hi RamJam,
From my experiences of this the money is currently in a 'holding' account, it normally takes 3-5 working days to be released either to the vendor or, in your case, the customer. Given the bank holiday this may cause a delay.
Others may have better insight than me but I thought I'd offer my two cents.0 -
OP can you check the dates on your post please - did you mean 23rd of August? because 3rd August was not a Tuesday?
If you meant the 23rd it is a bit early especially with the Bank holiday.0 -

Opps, yes i did mean 23rd and i have edited the original post, as you say its a bit early, how long from your knowledge, would you say it will take? I only ask as i had to put the transaction on my credit card, when i went into the store, to attempt the purchase for a second time. Ideally i would pay my credit card off when the funds are returned, this wouldn't normally be an issue however i am off to Florida on the 10th September and cannot say whether i will have access to banking to be able to pay the card off.

5 working days would be tomorrow - so IMO your available balance should revert back in mext day or so.0
