you can dry orange slices in the oven. Slice thinly, place on shelves to allow air to circulate. Dry on a low temp (2-3 for gas). Just remember to check them, so they don't burn.0

Spendless wrote:Last xmas I remember seeing a xmas pot-porri mix at an extortionate price. Seem to remember it had pine cones, dried autumn leaves, dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks in it. Now know where to get pine cones and have got cinnamon sticks in. Can anyone help with the drying out of rest of items.
Remember pot-pourri mix was in big cellaphone bag and tied with ribbon.
This should be free or very cheap to make.
There is a 'recipe' for this on the other old style long Christmas thread right near the end (I am sure it's on the last page)0 -
Free Chrissy Prezzies
1) get some flowers and leaves out of the garden - put them into a large book (so they are pressed) - put under mattress and leave until December.
Add a few pine cones, holly leaves, pretty pebbles washed out of the garden and a sprinkle of essential oil - homemade pot pourri. (Just needs decanting into a nice container.
2) save jam jars - strip off outside label - make some home made preserves/chutney/pickles/fruit in alcohol. Cut a circle of pretty paper and pop over cap with an elastic band around to cover the brand of jam jars name.
3) sew a pretty square of fabric leaving one corner open - add uncooked rice and fresh lavender heads. sew up corner. You then have a hot rice bag that needs heating up in the microwave for 2 minutes and gives heat for upto 2 hours. Perfect winder warmer and smells gorgeous too.
4) start collecting free cds from newspapers
5) Type the word FREEBIES into Google UK - and you will get hundreds of sites offering freebies.
6) print off these free vouchers - add your own name - recievers name and what you are going to give them and they can redeem them at any time e.g
http://www.fun-vouchers.org.uk/

for your mother it could be Free taxi driving service for 2 hours voucher/ Free Gardner for the afternoon voucher/Free Cleaner for the Afternoon voucher. So you are doing lovely little treats for her for nothing
for friends you could do a baby sitting service voucher, a pamper night at yours voucher, a dog walking/house cleaning voucher etc

I like your style Marsie! Have you joined pigsback yet? There's a long-running thread on it, on the freebies forum (sorry, don't know how to link to other posts). You get points for clicking on adverts and answering quiz questions (and some kindly MSE members post the answers on that thread I just mentioned). They soon mount up, and you can exchange them for all sorts of gifts, mainly vouchers - free cinema tickets, £10 Boots vouchers and so on.0
