Winterthur Insurance? !?

Hello.

Ive began looking back over my loan/card history. Id been mostly savy as a 20 something year old and declined most card protections stuff however i remember buying my first house in 2000/2001 and using the mortgage broker of the estate agent i purchase the house from.

I used norther rock for my mortgage who i have written to and had no PPI. However i distinctly remember paying two amounts to 'Winterthur Insurance' for something to protect myself if i lost my job. £25 and £30 a month per policy. Eventually i cancelled it. However i have no record.

I also remember cancelling payment protection for a credit card i had.

Now because i have no documents and only a vague memory of the payments. Is my best bet to use a company to do the work? or should a contact atleast Winthertur myself?

Has anyone had any experience with these guys?

Cheers

A claims company will ask you to do the work and then take your money, although on the plus side, they will provide the stamp to post your complaint.

Contact Winterthur. However, it's likely they will no longer have details from so far back, depending on when you cancelled.

Fairly high chance it was sold by a broker and you were required to get the insurance through them in order to get free mortgage advice, in which case so long as it was suitable it was not miss-sold

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Winterthur were a life assurance company.

Winterthur did not have a salesforce at that time. So, they have no liability for any products sold.

Put it this way, Winterthur have no liability for the sale. its not PPI and its pre-regulation. So, pretty much a non-starter.
