Oh, I'm sorry for needing money. Yes this is an opportunity to get compensation, and I will take it. Not to milk an innocent LL or abusing the system, but just to penalise a bad LL.

This whole situation cost me financially and emotionally for my partner and myself: unecessary and unprovoked stress and sleepless nights. All this because of some nasty person.
So yeah, if they can caugh up for it, well I am not gonna feel guilty about it.

It is also about right or wrong. I have explained it above, and will not reply to further judgements from other people.
LL broke the law, I'm suing for it. Full stop. You can judge me all you want, I frankly do not mind or care. I just don't quite get the value of your contribution in this topic, or how helpful it would be to an OP in need.

Some OPs get "abused" by bad LL. This particular topic could be useful to future them who end up in my situation.
It is difficult right now to find info on this matter, as too few tenants know about it. So I hope that this topic will help other OPs.
I'm from the sue capitol of the planet so who am I to judge you. But the reality is the £1000's you will receive for the stress and financial hardship of 33 days of an unprotected deposit is peanuts to these personal injury cases. Which is why I think it's sad this sue culture it's coming to the UK because it's going to manifest in other ways. Like higher insurance premiums, higher rents, ect. It's not a reflection on you, just a general observation.
Because it's my culture I know lawsuits are about money. Which is why your claim that it isn't about the money was so incredible.
I'm glad with one question we finally got to the truth.

It's not even the complete truth. This is what you believe to be the truth and are seeing in my posts.
I do it MAINLY out of principle and PARTLY for the money and get the compensation that I am due.

If this law is in place it is because many LL took the mickey with deposits, and abused the system. Now there is a law which is simple and clear. Any honest a good LL would have no issue to protect a deposit and send required info in the 30 days the law mentions.
It is sad that bad LL pushed the government to put in place such a law. But any good LL does not need to worry.

Fact is, my LL was bad, and (hopefully) she will get penalised for it. (hopefully) she will learn a lesson and become a better LL / person out of this.

    No, it's a penalty.

That's what punitive damages are, a penalty. A fine goes to the treasury (or other government institution)

In a way it's a good thing. The internet was made for people like that - if it was uninvented they'd be shouting at strangers in the street.

Well, probably not... It's so much more comfy to have a go at people in the anonymity of your living room...;)

Well, no. 'Punitive damages' are not the same as a penalty.
  • I've got a question on the DPS. My landlady only put in 75% of my deposit into the DPS, saying she need the spare money to buy some furniture for my rented house. Is it against the rule for her to do so?
