Does anyone use "wifi map" app ?

To try and save on data, I have installed the app "wifi map" as yet, I haven't been able to fathom it out. My understanding is that with data off and wifi map on, it locates the hot spots close to you and even if they are safeguarded by a password, the password is shown, to enable you to join. So far this hasn't been the case. Clearly I am doing something wrong. If you can suggest what, or an alternative to use on my iphone, I would appreciate it, thanks.

It only has access to the network passwords that the network owners have willingly shared with the app's central database.
I wouldn't share mine with it. Maybe you just haven't found anyone who has?
Do you mean it's not finding ANY WiFi networks, or it's just failing to provide you with the passwords to the protected ones you want to access?
It will also trip up where someone shared their password with WiFi Map one day, and changed it the next, without sharing the change.
It claims to have listed two million hotspots worldwide, but as someone pointed out - "2 million worldwide ain’t much – 2 million in CA alone maybe you’d find something"
Assuming the OP to be in the UK, I'll wager that 80-90% of those hotspots are in the USA, 5-9% are in the rest of the world, and around 1% are in the UK.0 -
so really it isn't going to be much use. I did read user comments ad it has to be said, they were in the States. It only has access to the network passwords that the network owners have willingly shared with the app's central database. Yes, I understand that.
I wouldn't share mine with it. Maybe you just haven't found anyone who has? Yes, there is a pub less than 100 yds away with open access.
