Unrepairable Fridge Freezer, less that 3 years old.

  • Wel,l thankyou everybody for your helpful tips and advice. It was interesting to see the different view points and suggestions.

The retailer was useless and basically did a runner. Avoided calls and letters.

So I actually contacted the manufacturer out of principal, expecting principals to be ignored and to battle in vain. But I felt the need to get my views across. I got a very very positive reaction from Zanussi, and they offered me a far superior model at very good price, taking into account the problems I had with the other model and that I had only just had it for 3 years. So all in all we only ended up spending 200 quid on a £500 fridge freezer. And they delivered it for free and took away the old broken model. My faith in manufacturers has been restored, Zanussi were nothing short of brilliant in the way they dealt with this issue, their customer services people were brilliant, called when they said they would and replied to all correspondence professionally and quickly. I would there fore recommend Zanussi to people, yes the original model broke after only three years but Zanussi, as a gesture of good will and under no obligation, were great.

It shows that it pays to address these issues.

Thanks again for all your advice !
  • Well done Davosp, just shows it's worth chasing things up.:j

I'm in the market for a fridge freezer at the moment and I'm hoping whatever I buy will last as long as my old one which is still going strong after 25 years.
I wouldn't have changed it but we've got a new kitchen and I'd like a stainless steel american style one to go with.
Thanks for the link shandypants5 - that was very interesting.

Now, having just paid a service man (recommended by Zanussi) £66 for the privilige of telling me that it is beyond repair due to a gas leak in the cooling system, I was wondering if I had any legal rights to demand a new Fridge freezer from either the retailer or the manufacturer. Surely a product costing so much money should not break down within 3 years

    Yes.

Get it confirmed in writing from the Service Force agent that it is an internal leak and cannot be repaired. This HAS to be a manufacturing defect and could not have magically occurred by itself if the cabinet has not been damaged or punctured since it's a sealed system. ;)
