I've got a Halifax Clarity and I tried to use it to isn't to make a purchase in US$ from a US Company via PayPal. However it stated it was declined by Halifax and I have to use another card. I don't want to because of the good exchange rate. Has anyone else had this problem please? Thanks.

  • Phone Halifax on number on back of card - they probably think there is something fishy about the transaction.
Once you confirm it is ok it should go through.

Can you not use your Clarity directly to make the purchase?

No it keeps getting refused. I've tried adding it to mynpaypal account, paying directly via credit card but each time it states it's been declined.

Many thanks. I'll try them in the morning - a little late now.
  • Won't PayPal force a rubbish exchange rate anyway?

No, you can pay in the local currency or use it to convert to Sterling.

Many thanks. I've called the Halifax this morning and it's been sorted. Despite me activating the card online it somehow didn't register. However saying that all my details did ie password etc and also my holiday dates. Still at least when I use it in the USA later this month it will work!
