Travel Insurance for pre-existing conditions?

Looking for a little bit of advice please.
My Mum has a cheap holiday booked in a couple of weeks to Spain for a fortnight. She's asked me to get some travel insurance quotes for her and frankly I'm gobsmacked! I answered honestly, that she has COPD and depression and most companies won't insure her, the cheapest that will is over £1000 for 15 days holiday! The whole holiday itself is half that much!
Now she's always had insurance before, usually with the post office and never paid more than £40, which I now realise is because they've never actually asked about any pre-existing conditions and she's not thought about it.
She certainly can't afford the insurance policy by declaring her conditions, so question is, does she not bother at all and take the risk with flight cancellation/lost baggage etc. or can you be covered just for luggage/flights by not declaring medical conditions?
I really don't know what to tell her for the best. Thank you :)

No she must declare pre existing conditions. If she failed to do so and then became ill on holiday, it could be very expensive. Even if the illness/accident had nothing to do with her pre existing conditions, the insurer might refuse to pay out because she had failed to declare. You could have her stuck in a foreign hospital with massive bills for you to pay.

There is a lot more besides the things you mention
Repatriation if she is in an accident or if she is taken ill.
Even worse, dies or is killed.

Its imperative that insurance is taken ouf to foreign holidays and should be taken out as soon as a holiday is booked, lots of things can happen between booking a holiday and setting off to travel.
    Keep looking around
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Well I've tried compare the market, gocompare, Ehicplus and they all either won't insure her or a minimum of £1000+ which she simply can't afford. It's been hard enough saving for the holiday :/
I don't know what else to suggest to her.

If you Google 'travel insurance for COPD sufferers' you will get lost of links, including those to companies suggested above.
  • I shall investigate further, thanks. I tried All Clear earlier and was quite about £860 for that one.
  • Did you have any luck?
