Speeding Court Summons - Sent to Wrong Address

Options
I received a speeding Notice back in January, which I returned accepting I was the driver. As this was for doing 50 in a 30 zone (country roads going into a village, not an excuse, but to give context) I understand that this was likely to be dealt with via Court.

I have since moved home, back in in March, and notified the DVLA to have both my Licence and V5 changed. I received both of these back early April confirming the change.

Turns out a Court Summons was sent to my old address. This was my parents' house and they have since moved out themselves, so it has taken some time for the current resident to pass the Summons on to myself. I was given 21 days to respond, which has now expired.

Am I now going to receive harsher penalty for "failing to reply" to a Summons I did not know existed? Again, I have confirmed that my address details with the DVLA were correct as of April, and I can see that the case was past to court and Summons issued at the end of July. I would have thought the Speeding Unit would check my address before submitting the case for court?

I can of course send this back now, although I suspect my "failure to reply" may already have been registered and the penalty awarded based on that. No doubt this will also be sent to my old address. I'm also somewhat concerned that I may end up getting stopped by the Police to challenge me about this.

Any advice would be appreciated!
