Just a thought - is it an Android smart phone, and did you install any new apps shortly before the mysterious texts started being billed?
If so, look very carefully at what you have installed. There's nothing to stop an app sending a text message, and then receiving a string of premium rate texts in reply - all without your knowledge.
This has been stopped in Android 6.0 and above. Only the default messaging app is able to delete text messages so premium messages can't be hidden anymore.

About time, too. It's a pity that the phone providers are so lazy about providing updates for existing phones, though.
