Van Insurance

Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone can help: I want to get insured on my brother's currently unused Vauxhall Vivaro as I'm getting into the floor laying trade with him (I'm learning with him at the moment), but I'm a bit worried about the price of insurance. I'm 24 and I drive like an angel. I've never even had the smallest bump, and have no convictions at all. I haven't driven since September 2014 (I've been at university), but I still have three year's no claims bonus.
The cheapest quote I can get is £146 a month, but that sounds really expensive to me. Does anyone know if this sounds right?
Also, I don't know if I'm answering some of the questions right when getting a quote. For example, I literally don't know how far my annual mileage would be - I couldn't even fathom a guess, so I just put 10,000 based on advice. I also don't have a clue how far I'd travel in a day, because some days I'd travel really far, whereas on another day the job may be just around the corner, so what figures am I meant to answer these sorts of questions with? Do the answers have any bearing on the quote?
Any advice would be much appreciated. I want to start driving the van so that I can start doing jobs on my own which will be a step in the right direction for me.
Raffa
P.S. On another note, would I be able to cancel the insurance if it didn't work out at all down the line? If so, I wouldn't feel so reluctant to take the insurance; knowing I wasn't tied to it would be a weight off my shoulders.

firstly it is worth checking the date that is on your NCD notification...majority of insurers will not take NCD over 2 years old
secondly, assuming it is still valid, you may need to find an insurance company that will transfer NCD earned in car to a van policy
without confirmation, you may be looking for policies with no NCD (which will cost more)
re cancelling, policies paid monthly are not "pay as you go" you cannot just cancel and stop paying as this will be an annual policy. If there is any claim made the full years premium will be due and any cancellation fees would be detailed with the policy0 -
Transfer from a car to a van probably wont be hard but once its on the van transferring it back may mmore difficult or impossible.
Mate lost his no claims doing the same. Had to start his car policy from zero no claims.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
