Coinstar or Metro or something else

I have lots of coins to change up - Coinstar is convinient nearby but does anyone know what % they take?

OR I heard Metro Bank do something similar for free?

Any insight welcome - thanks.

Or you can get some of the little poly bags from your bank and pay them in without loss, but the downside is you have to do all the counting (or weighing) yourself.

yes sounds painful ! Not sure if all the banks accept all the change these days?

I just give my loose change (1p, 2p, 5p) to a local charity shop once it builds up to a reasonable amount, saves you the bother of counting and does some good.

Metro Bank have a free coin counting machine in all their branches. There is no charge.

Coinstar charge 9.9% (variable by location) according to their website.

I always prefer counting the money myself. It doesn't take long once you get into a routine (put the 2p's into piles of 5 coins, put the 1p's into piles of 10 coins, then put ten piles of the same coin into a bag).

Some HSBC & NatWest branches have machines that let you pay in coins to accounts held with them.

I should add the money bags are also free from the bank At Santander you usually require to deposit a certain minimum amount of 1p's, 2p's and 5p's.

My husband paid over £40 in coins into his Lloyds account last week
(all sorted & bagged) and does this a couple of times a year.

Sadly the local branch is closing in October so he'll have to find an alternative:o

I think some branches have a limit of how much small change they will take off you so you have to do more than 1 trip.

Mine all goes in Tesco self service tills & from a conversation I had with someone working there they are pleased to get it. After all it costs them money to get change from a bank & more to get it delivered.
