Like others I likely would not be here today if I had not quit when I did....serious illness is a sure way to stop you in your tracks but hopefully others can just make the decision to quit before that happens.
I have some neighbours uk originally that are often so ill through smoking but carry on smoking regardless that shows you/reminds me how difficult it can be. BW Dianne
My Oh has smoked since a young boy,he has COPD a enlarged heart and today we found out he has tumour in his bowel, don't know if it's malignant yet.I keep hoping he will see sense but can't see it happening0 -
DomRavioli all I can do is wish you well in your quest to stop smoking.
Think of the early times you stopped smoking, then remember why you started again and avoid those situations.
It is almost guaranteed that smoking will affect your health, it can't not, cancer, heart probs, COPD when you cough up your insides and you have to find somewere to get rid of it. Yes, I know its not nice but my OH who gave up with me has COPD, insanely he started with this a year after he stopped smoking. For me, well I hit the floor like a sack of taties with a heart attack, luckily stents have been invented, not so for my mum who collapsed same as me but died within an hour. Be strong and determined that this Nicotine will not rule you. As it is doing now.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I only quit 6 months ago! Going strong but do get a lot of cravings still.
I feel much better for it already and like many others wish i never started. What did everyone use/do to stop? I went cold turkey and joined a gym didn't like the idea of being addicted to a E-fag or gum etc.
good luck DomRavioli i have had many tries too but always just keep trying!0 -
Can a non smoker join in? I see two middle aged people shuffling past my house on their way to the shop, with a fag in their mouth, one with a walker gadget and the other a stick, both bent up leaning forward. I can't understand why they are intent on killing themselves.
Well done to those who have managed to give up, it must be hellishly hard on the willpower. My sister managed it. If you are struggling, keep trying. I thank my lucky stars that I did not join in with that particular hobby in my youth.

I have recently been taking my husband for radiotherapy. Whilst he was having his treatment I started to chat to the woman in the next seat. She told me that she needed oxygen every day and was having radiotherapy for lung cancer. She then told me she still smoked, as she couldn't give them up:eek:
What a waste of NHS money and money that could be spent on more deserving cases.
I am glad to say that neither my husband or I smoke.0 -
I'm at the 3 month mark (just over). Yes, I still have cravings but they dissipate after a few minutes. I've told everyone I know that I've quit so it's not an option to start again. I've even told the two local shops that sell cigarettes to never sell me any no matter how much I beg
DomRavioli, I went to the stop smoking clinic at my doctor's surgery and was prescribed Champix. No major craving, just a niggle here and there. No mood swings either, although the tablets are not for everyone.
I just had to quit as I couldn't afford it anymore. Sure it's the health thing as well but it was the cost issue that spurred me on. I've not gained any weight and I'm now off the tablets. I do have an e-cig for "emergencies" but I rarely use it.0 -

It may sound like a waste but smokers put far more into the economy in taxes etc, It every single person who smoked suddenly stopped the country would probably be bankrupt.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

no the country would be saving huge real huge amounts in helpcare savings and the government would find an offset to tax instead like your pint or similar......losers would only be the manufacturers of fags
pat on the backs for all that are trying so hard as its will be worth it ...it will be so worth it....0 -
At some point after quitting, cigarettes stop tasting nice. I'm not suggesting you put this to the test, but I did recently, and I can report it was entirely disappointing and nothing worth missing. Tasted nothing like I thought it would, it was just stale and nasty. Interestingly, the good brands still smell nice to me - they just don't taste nice.0

Rjeally really a big Well Done to those who are at the start of being ciggie free,
Keep busy, the cravings will go and they will just turn into tiny urges which last only a few seconds.
Anyone who can give up smoking which ever way they can have my utmost respect. It isnt easy but
you will reap the benefits in the short and long term
Maybe I shouldnt say this but I am really proud of myself and hubby for stopping.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
