Smoking.

Okay, who is still with me on the stopping smoking journey

It's 2 years and 4 months since I last had a cigarette, no regrets, but just now and again I

could murder a fag, just for a second or two, then its gone...
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

  • 11 years smoke free. The best thing I ever did was to give up. The worst thing I ever did was to start. It's unbelievable how smoking cigarettes is still legal with all that we know about how bad it is.

7 Years smoke free here. On the contrary to having an urge for a cigarette, every time a smell the aroma emanating from the vicinity of a smoker, my immediate response is to think "How utterly repulsive.....I used to smell as bad as that?".

  • many many years past now of yellow walls yellow paintwork yellow curtains and as for lungs well that is not something you could imagine.....both of us gave up but one of us did do much before the other which was rather selfish looking back now.....Sometimes it takes a hell of a lot to give up the weed but the benefits just go on and on and on...If only people could know that. I know exactly what you mean, all of you. We dont realise how much we stink till we stop being a stinker.

Oldandhappy, it took a major heart attack to stop me, not sure that anything else would to be honest

And yes, i dont know how it is still legal, the amount of harm it does

I stopped smoking 4 years and 5 months ago, almost to the day! I still get the odd pang, but I don't regret stopping for one moment. My LBM was when I needed to buy my son his first pair of shoes. I could afford to buy his shoes or my cigarettes for the week. He won - no contest! Like most people I wish I'd done it a lot sooner - but its done now and I know I'll never go back. The smell is just terrible, like McKneff said - it really stinks!!

I used to smoke menthals and quit 11/12 years ago, but if I smell someone smoking one I still occasionaly want a ciggie - I don't think its an urge that ever goes 100%.

It's been just over 6 years for me.

I think that the occasional 'i could murder a fag' moments stopped for me at about 3 years. Don't get me wrong, i was never really tempted, i just think those thoughts were an automatic response to stress/worry/social situations etc.

Giving up was the best thing i have done...but the worst for my waistline!
  • If like me a long term smoker ex of course... your sure to have some moments of madness thinking something is missing...its just the past habit of so long that it may sometimes feel it cannot be wiped out but that I find is just a blip. Like others I likely would not be here today if I had not quit when I did....serious illness is a sure way to stop you in your tracks but hopefully others can just make the decision to quit before that happens.
I have some neighbours uk originally that are often so ill through smoking but carry on smoking regardless that shows you/reminds me how difficult it can be. BW Dianne

Desperately trying to quit here. I did quit for 9 months a fair few years back. Nothing seems to be working, but I will keep on trying until it is done.
